Vietnamese NGOs welcome VPA signing
The network of Vietnamese Non-governmental Organisations on Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (VNGO-FLEGT) has welcomed the official signing by Vietnam and the European Union (EU) of their Voluntary Partnership Agreement (VPA).
The official signing of the VPA took place on 19 October 2018, in Brussels, Belgium.
In a statement, VNGO-FLEGT said that the signing and implementation of the Agreement would ‘continue to strengthen forest governance, promote timber trade between the European Union and Vietnam, and promote sustainable forest development.’
The Network said it would continue its ‘active participation in the preparation and implementation’ of the Agreement.
The VNGO-FLEGT Network was founded in January 2012 with the aim of contributing to the negotiation and implementation of the VPA and the FLEGT Programme in Vietnam. Members of the Network have brought the voices of stakeholders, especially local communities, to the negotiation process.
