UNEP-WCMC Releases November 2017 – January 2018 Briefing Note

The UN Environment World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC) has released a briefing note on developments relevant to the implementation and enforcement of the EU Timber Regulation (EUTR). The note, which covers the period November 2017 to January 2018, has been developed by UNEP-WCMC as a consultant of the European Commission in close cooperation with the competent authorities of the European Union Member States implementing the EUTR.

The note provides an update on Holzindustrie Schweighofer’s alleged purchase and trade of illegally harvested timber and FSC’s own investigations. It contains news on the enforcement of the EUTR in Germany and the Netherlands. The briefing note also highlights a report linking violence in Brazil to illegal logging and workshops to support EUTR due diligence requirements conducted by NEPCon.
