Leading experts will speak about trends in West African timber trade, international markets and buyers’ requirements; and the importance of legality in the timber sector.
The illegal trade of tropical timber is one of the main drivers of environmental degradation, human rights abuses and corruption.
The EU Timber Regulation, the US Lacey Act, and the Australia Illegal Logging Prohibition Act support the trade of legal timber, requiring timber buyers to take due care in the selection of suppliers of timber products to be imported to their countries.
