FLEGT roadmap launched in the Philippines
Forest stakeholders in the Philippines have agreed on a ‘FLEGT roadmap’ to improve forest law enforcement, governance and trade through 2020. The plans were finalised at the first meeting of the Technical Working Group on Wood, whose members are from the government, civil society and the private sector.
The activities in the FLEGT roadmap focus on promoting legal sourcing and trade of timber and timber products for both domestic and export markets. This will entail improving transparency and accountability, control of supply chains and assurance of legality, and helping exporters to reduce the risk of illegality in their domestic and imported timber supplies.
The FAO-EU FLEGT Programme supports the initiative, whose first activities are due to begin in the third quarter of 2017.
